How to choose cheese for my baby

Frequently asked quentions:
When can I serve cheese to my baby?
What type of cheese is suitable to my baby?

What is cheese ? ( information from website )
Cheese is a fermented milk product , its nature and common yogurt similarities, through the fermentation process to produce, also contains lactic acid bacteria, but the concentration of cheese higher than yogurt , approximate solid foods , nutritional value and therefore richer. Per kilogram of cheese products are concentrated by the 10 kilograms of milk made it riches in nutrients protein, calcium , fat, phosphorus and vitamins, and it is a pure natural food. Therefore, the cheese is fermented milk in term of processing; the cheese is concentrated milk in term of nutrition.

About the common doubts of a lot of mummies when choosing dairy products especially cheese, "what type of cheese is suitable for my baby?" "Have I chosen the correct cheese?" Please ensure that you buy a full cheese and not a "Cheese food product" such as those like cheese spread or packaged cheese slices. While there is nothing terribly wrong with these cheeses, we prefer our babies to have only natural real cheese without any artificial colours or additives.
Here are two steps mummies can follow in choosing the right cheese and other dairy products :

1 ) Look at the ingredients
The ingredients in making Natural cheese are very simple. Usually there are only 3-4 ingredients. If you see the "E" followed by three digits in the ingredients , it must be a processed foods. Do not buy it ~ (please refer the example below, E452, E331, E450, E339, E330...)

2 ) Look at the sodium content

Buy only 680mg / 100g or lesser Sodium level of natural cheese .
Meet the above criteria, you can rest assured that is the right cheese and serve moderation to your baby. Very simple, right?

Here are some block cheese brands that can easily be found in Malaysia market:

• Cream Cheese - SCS (v) - Philadelphia (v)

Tatura brand is recommended too as i checked the scs cream cheese just now in the supermarket, it's contains Emulsifiers(471) and stabilisers (410,412)..but overall it is no preservative, no flavours and no added colours.

• Cottage Cheese - Dairy Farmer's (v) – Bulla

• Mozzarella Cheese - Perfect Italiano - EMBORG - Arla (v)

• Cheddar Cheese - BEGA - Australian Dairies (v) - COON (v)

[Note]

- Those marked with (v) means suitable for vegetarian as either they don't contain animal Rennet or they use Microbial (aka the non animal rennet)

 - All types of cheese can be easily found in either AEON, TESCO, GIANT, AEON BIG, COLD STORAGE except Cottage Cheese at JAYA GROCER

- start with 'E' ingredient = additives

Tips on keeping un-finished cheese block to avoid molding...

1) ready dry clean knife, carefully open the cheese packaging
2) cut the cheese block into 4/6/8 pcs

3) use cling wrap to hold one of the cheese carefully, avoid hand direct contact the cheese
4) cheese block on hand over the cling wrap
5) wrap the cheese block closely
6) repeat the same with the remaining cheese block, then put them in a zip lock bag

Ready to keep the cheese block in fridge (some articles said if put in freezer might change the taste of the cheese, I tried but it didn't change much). Whenever need to use it, just take out one small block and use it!

Hope this help to some new mummies!
